BIO: In addition to being an out-of-control plant person, I'm a
professional speaker, writer and host of GardenLine on WXTK radio.
I'm a part-time employee at Hyannis Country Garden and a
volunteer Master Gardener with the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension.
PRINT: Author of A Garden Lover’s Martha’s Vineyard, A Garden Lover’s Cape
Cod, Your Garden Shouldn’t Make You Crazy and The Cape Cod
Garden. monthly columnist for Prime Time Magazine, a
frequent contributor to American Nurseryman Magazine and freelance
writer for other publications.
PASSION: I love speaking to groups of all types and sizes. I speak to those with
green or black thumbs, professional landscapers, garden center
employees, horticultural societies, alumni associations, women’s
groups, churches and others. I think that being involved with plants and
gardening is good for people, so the objective of my talks is to create
happy, successful gardeners. I also believe that we can see gardening
as a metaphor that helps us cultivate joyful, fulfilling lives. I speak with
passion, humor and a great deal of common sense.
GARDEN: I have gardened in Wisconsin, California, New Jersey, New York State
and Massachusetts, and I’ve grown plants in good soil, clay, rocks and
pure sand. I’ve planted on Cape Cod since 1993 and in early 2008 I
moved to a 2 ½ acre blank slate of a property. All I know now is that I’ve
got a weird clay/sand mix in desperate need of organic matter, and a
great deal of work ahead of me. I’ll keep you posted.
